Scheduled water supply disruptions in Nairobi from Monday (06 April) until 11 April

As per reports, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has announced a planned disruption to water supply across large parts of Nairobi following a scheduled shutdown by the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA), from 0600 hours local time (0300 hours UTC) on Monday (06 April) to 0600 hours local time (0300 hours UTC) on 11 April.

The disruption is expected to affect a wide range of residential, commercial, and institutional areas. Affected locations include Westlands (Riverside, Parklands), parts of Lavington (including Gitanga Road, Riara Road, Ole Ndume Road) and Kileleshwa (Kandara, Othaya, Githunguri roads), as well as Kilimani and Hurlingham (including Argwings Kodhek Road and Denis Pritt Road).

• Institutional and central areas expected to be affected include the University of Nairobi, Daystar University, Coptic Hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital, KEMRI offices, and customers along Mamlaka Road and Valley Road as well as Upper Hill and Jamhuri estate.
• In western Nairobi, Dagoretti (including Kawangware, Kabiria, Waithaka, Dagoretti Market, Sunset, Kagondo), Uthiru, Mutuini, and Gatina are expected to experience outages.
• Kibera (Makina, Kianda, Lindi, Olympic) is expected to face supply shortages. Lang’ata areas including Southlands, Madaraka, Nairobi West, areas along Lang’ata Road, Karen (including Bogani, Hardy, Kuwinda, and areas near the Giraffe Centre) are also affected.
• Additionally, Central Business District (CBD), South B, South C, industrial zones along Mombasa Road, the entire Industrial Area, and key transport and logistics infrastructure including Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the Standard Gauge Railway are expected to be affected.
• Eastleigh, Gikomba, Pumwani, Buruburu phases three and four, Mathare North, Huruma, parts of Thome and Baba Dogo, as well as Ngara, Forest Road, Limuru Road, and Gigiri (including UNEP and the US Embassy). Embakasi, Tassia, and Imara Daima are also included in the affected zones.
• Authorities have advised residents and businesses to store adequate water in advance and use available supplies sparingly during the interruption period.
