As per reports, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced that a section of Greenfield Road over Interstate 696 at the border of Southfield and Oak Park is scheduled to close from 0700 hours local time (1100 hours UTC) on Monday (18 May).
The closure is scheduled for approximately two months to facilitate bridge repair works.
• Motorists are to be diverted via the eastbound and westbound Interstate 696 service drives and crossover turnaround bridges to maintain access along Greenfield Road. The entrance and exit ramps connecting Interstate 696 and Greenfield Road are already closed.
• The closure forms part of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s USD 275 million ‘Restore the Reuther’ infrastructure project. Additional ongoing restrictions linked to the project include reduced westbound Interstate 696 traffic capacity with only two lanes open between Dequindre Road and Interstate 75.
• Ramps connecting westbound Interstate 696 and northbound and southbound Interstate 75 also remain closed. The shared westbound Interstate 696 ramp toward Lahser Road, United States Route 24 (US-24/Telegraph Road), and M-10 (Northwestern Highway) remains closed. Eastbound Interstate 696 lanes between M-10 and Interstate 75 also remain closed.
• Additional closures affecting the Interstate 696 ramp to M-1 (Woodward Avenue) are scheduled for late May, while a portion of Southfield Road is scheduled to close during late summer.
