Road closures scheduled in San Jose on Saturday (13 December)

As per reports, the Costa Rican Traffic Police announced a special operation of closures and detours in the vicinity of La Sabana Metropolitan Park for Saturday (13 December), due to the Festival of Lights, in order to organize entry and exit to San José during the event.

• The measure aims to reduce traffic congestion and ensure access to hospitals located on Paseo Colón, such as the Children’s Hospital and San Juan de Dios Hospital as the parade will travel along the perimeter of La Sabana Park for the first time.
• Starting at 1100 hours local time (1700 hours UTC) on Saturday (13 December), traffic regulations will begin on the stretch between Funerales Vida and the National Gymnasium, and an hour later, a total closure will be implemented around the recreational park, explained the deputy director of the Traffic Police, Martín Sánchez.
• The parallel route through the area of ​​the Comptroller General of the Republic will remain open, but the lanes adjacent to La Sabana will be closed.
• Vehicles entering San Jose from the Water Monument must turn east, to the left, at the Nissan intersection, where traffic officers will be present to guide drivers.
• Those leaving the capital must drive behind the Más x Menos supermarket to join Route 1 (General Cañas), as part of the detours established for the Festival of Light.
• Any heavy vehicle arriving after 1100 hours local time (1700 hours UTC) will not be allowed to proceed towards San José beyond the Water Monument and must detour via Circunvalación, where the Traffic Police will place officers to monitor compliance with the restriction.
• The roads adjacent to La Sabana will be closed at noon and regulated passages will be applied on the street that passes west by the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE), from where traffic will be directed towards Rohrmoser as an alternate route.
• The first three blocks of Paseo Colón , from the statue of León Cortés Castro, will be closed from Friday (12 December) at 2200 hours local time, to allow the placement of the floats that will parade on Saturday (13 December) during the Festival of Light.
• The closures and regulations will remain in place until around midnight , during which time approximately 35 traffic officers will be working, distributed at the main access and exit points of the capital.
