As per reports, the Municipality of Nicosia announced at 0605 hours local time (0305 hours UTC) road reconstruction works on Kritis Street, from its junction with Digeni Akrita Avenue to its junction with Stasandrou Street, and on Filippiados Street, in central Nicosia, under the project ‘Proper Construction of Various Streets in Nicosia, Contract 23 City Centre’, with works scheduled to last approximately two months from Tuesday (23 June).
• The works involve the construction of a rainwater drainage system, construction of single-lane sidewalks in accordance with modern accessibility standards, reconstruction of the road surface, implementation of new traffic regulations and road markings, arrangement of roadside parking spaces, and upgrading of public utilities infrastructure.
• According to reports, the closure of Kritis Street and Kypranoros Street, located to the left of Digeni Akrita Avenue immediately after the Lycabettus Police Station in the direction of Pallouriotissa, has caused significant traffic disruption in the surrounding area, with vehicles being diverted onto Androkleous Street, resulting in increased congestion on adjacent roads.
• Temporary traffic lights are in operation at the intersection of Androkleous and Stasandrou streets for the duration of the works, and motorists have been advised to exercise caution and comply with all temporary road markings and traffic diversions.
• A fixed speed camera is in operation in the vicinity of the Lycabettus Police Station on Kritis Street, and motorists are advised to account for this when navigating the affected area.
