Road accident reported on Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Borghat on Friday (15 May)

According to reports, three heavy vehicles collided and overturned on the Mumbai-bound carriageway of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near kilometre 38.100 at Borghat at around 1705 hours (local time) on Friday (15 May).

• Police stated that a truck travelling from Pune towards Mumbai allegedly lost control and rammed into two vehicles ahead, causing all three vehicles to overturn. Three persons died on the spot, while two drivers sustained serious injuries and were shifted to Khopoli Rural Hospital.
• Paint containers and powder bags spilled across the carriageway, affecting all four lanes for around two hours. Emergency teams were dispatched after police received information at around 1710 hours (local time), and reached the spot by 1720 hours (local time).
• Police suspect brake failure in one truck as the possible cause. Rescue, clearance, and traffic restoration operations were carried out by police, IRB patrol teams, Devdoot personnel, and local responders.
