Risk of volcanic activity on Reykjanes Peninsula remains heightened as of Thursday (01 August)

As per reports, Iceland’s Meteorological Office warned of a potential volcanic eruption within the next seven to 10 days. The warning cites increased seismic activity and magma recharge. The current volcanic activity is significantly higher than average but not considered historically abnormal.

Due to recent volcanic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has also advised British travelers to Iceland of potential flight disruptions. The eruptions have affected the area around Grindavik, with road closures in place.
