As per reports, the local administration has declared the Ramky plant a restricted area and deployed more than 150 police personnel in Pithampur. Following an order issued by the Jabalpur High Court on (03 December), approximately 337 metric tonnes of toxic waste from the Bhopal gas disaster were transported to the Ramky plant for disposal (incineration) under stringent security measures on Wednesday (01 January). The incineration process is expected to take up to nine months.
The residents of Pithampur are against the decision to burn the toxic waste in the Pithampur Ramky plant. Several residents along with various organisations are protesting against the decision. A group of doctors based in Indore have filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Indore bench of the High Court against moving the toxic waste to the Pithampur industrial area.
