As per reports, the Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaaf (PTI) party has announced nationwide protests after the conclusion of the Eid-al-Fitr (10-11 April) festival over a number of issues.
• The PTI’s core committee has announced that the first protest will take place in Pishin, Balochistan on Saturday (13 April).
• The core committee will also convene, along with party workers, legal experts, influential persons from society and other parties, for a meeting on Friday (12 April) to chart a roadmap for the protests. The location and other details of this meeting are yet to be ascertained.
• Some of the political parties and interest groups that the PTI has been in talks with include: the Sunni Ittehad Council, Majlis-e-Wadhat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Liaquat Baloch and the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F).
• Senior PTI leaders announce that the protests are against the high electricity tariffs, alleged electoral malpractices, and the postponement of Senate elections in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
• The protests will take place in the form of demonstrations on the streets of all major cities across Pakistan.
