As per reports, approximately 1,500 local residents gathered in Waterlooville town centre on Wednesday (30 July) to protest against Home Office plans to house 35 asylum seekers in a newly constructed apartment block.
• The protest remained largely peaceful, though minor tensions were reported between demonstrators and a small group of counter-protesters supporting the housing initiative. Police maintained a presence to monitor the situation.
• Reports suggest that local authorities, including Havant Borough Council, have acknowledged the public opposition and stated they will consider these concerns in their ongoing discussions with the Home Office.
