As per reports, several trade unions have called for a protest outside the Presidential House in San José from 1000 hours local time (1600 hours UTC) on Wednesday (15 July) to oppose the government’s refusal to swear in former congresswoman Rocío Alfaro as the workers’ representative on the Board of Directors of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS).
• Reports indicate that demonstrators will demand the swearing-in of Rocío Alfaro and other representatives whose appointments were rejected by the Governing Council.
• Reportedly, the protest is scheduled a few hours before the Executive Branch’s regular press conference and may attract multiple union groups.
