As per reports, on Sunday (10 August) evening hours, motorcycle marches by Hezbollah supporters began in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon.
• The demonstrations were held in protest against the Lebanese government’s recent decision to restrict the possession of weapons to the state and to endorse the objectives of a US policy paper supporting this stance.
• In response, the Lebanese army implemented heightened security measures, deploying personnel at all entrances to the southern suburbs and across major streets in Beirut to prevent any escalation.
• The government has instructed the army to develop and execute a plan to disarm Hezbollah before year-end, a directive opposed by the Tehran-backed group.
