As per reports, activists affiliated with Extinction Rebellion entered railway tracks at Utrecht Central Station on Saturday (23 May) as part of a protest action related to Dutch government policy concerning Israel.
• Reportedly, approximately 20 activists occupied railway tracks at two separate locations within the station area while displaying banners carrying protest messages.
• Dutch authorities had previously stated that the protest action would not be permitted at the station and warned that police intervention would take place in the event of a railway blockade.
• Netherlands Railways (NS) stated that train services to and from Utrecht Central Station were suspended due to the railway blockade.
• Police personnel were deployed in large numbers at Utrecht Central Station and were preparing to intervene once operational safety conditions permitted.
