Protest announced against garbage transfer station in Gajuwaka, Visakhapatnam, on Friday (20 March)

As per reports, residents from 16 localities in the Gajuwaka area of Visakhapatnam have announced plans to stage a protest beginning Friday (20 March) against the operation of a garbage transfer station managed by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation.

• Protesters plan to lock the gates of the garbage transfer station and begin an indefinite protest at the site. The demonstration is expected to involve participants from multiple surrounding localities that are reportedly affected by the waste facility.
• Organisers have also stated that they intend to hold a round the clock sit in protest at the location. As part of the agitation, participants have indicated plans to conduct a ‘Vanta Varpu’ programme at the site, which involves cooking food collectively as part of the protest activity.
