As per reports, recurring power outages and electricity rationing are affecting businesses and households across Venezuela, with disruptions reported in 23 states and Caracas as of Wednesday (19 August).

The central state of Aragua, approximately 80 kilometres southeast of Caracas, is among the most affected areas. Residents in Maracay, the state capital, reportedly experience outages lasting for much of the day, with associated water shortages. Businesses have reported interruptions to normal operating hours due to prolonged power cuts.

• The government has introduced a national energy-saving plan to address a reported daily electricity deficit of 2,500 megawatts. Electricity demand reportedly reached 15,726 megawatts last week, the highest level in eight years.
• Unscheduled outages have also contributed to protests in parts of Aragua, including nightly demonstrations in San Mateo.
