As per reports, the Ecuadorian government announced scheduled electricity outages across multiple municipalities in 15 provinces between Saturday (30 May) and Sunday (31 May) and Saturday (06 June) and Sunday (07 June) due to planned maintenance works aimed at strengthening the national electrical infrastructure in anticipation of possible impacts linked to the El Niño phenomenon.
• Reports indicate that maintenance works and scheduled electricity interruptions are expected across municipalities in Pichincha, Guayas, Los Ríos, Azuay, Morona Santiago, Bolívar, El Oro, Esmeraldas, Manabí, Orellana, Sucumbíos, Cotopaxi, Imbabura, Chimborazo, and Loja provinces.
• Authorities stated that affected municipalities are expected to include Quito, Guayaquil, Durán, Daule, Milagro, Cuenca, Machala, Manta, Portoviejo, Francisco de Orellana, Ibarra, Otavalo, Riobamba, Loja, and Lago Agrio, among others.
• Electricity supply is scheduled to be suspended in the Las Retamas sector of Alangasí from 0900 hours to 1300 hours local time (1400 hours to 1800 hours UTC) on Saturday (30 May).
• Power outages are expected in the La Villaflora sector of New Neighborhood from 0900 hours to 1300 hours local time (1400 hours to 1800 hours UTC) on Sunday (31 May).
• Electricity interruptions are planned in the People’s Committee, La Bota, and Barrio Los Bomberos sectors of Cristianía from 0900 hours to 1300 hours local time (1400 hours to 1800 hours UTC) on Saturday (06 June).
• Power cuts are scheduled in Algeria, Hierba Buena, and San Carlos del Sur sectors of Epiclachima from 0830 hours to 1230 hours local time (1330 hours to 1730 hours UTC) on Sunday (07 June).
• Reports further indicate that power outages in Guayaquil are expected to occur at varying times in central and northern parts of the city during the maintenance period.
