As per reports, on Saturday (11 October), Havana experienced a major power outage following an explosion at the Talla Piedra electrical substation, a tanker truck collision with a utility pole in Alamar, and the shutdown of the Felton 1 thermoelectric plant.
Firefighters and utility crews responded, but power remains disrupted across Centro Habana, Old Havana, San Miguel del Padrón, Arroyo Naranjo, 10 de Octubre, and Cerro.
• In Havana, blackouts last up to 10 hours daily, while eastern provinces face outages exceeding 20 hours.
• The Electric Union (UNE) reported a national electricity deficit of 1,680 megawatts, with 54% of Cuba’s grid expected to remain without service.
