As per reports, the Mayor’s Office of Medellín and the Mobility Secretariat continue to enforce the peak-and-plate (Pico y Placa) traffic restriction across Medellín and the Aburrá Valley on Wednesday (08 July) to reduce traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.
• Reports indicate that the restriction for private vehicles applies to license plates ending in four and six, while motorcycles (two- and four-stroke) with registration numbers beginning with four and six are also prohibited from circulating.
• Reportedly, taxis with license plates ending in five are subject to the restriction between 0600 hours local time (1100 hours UTC) and 2000 hours local time (0100 hours UTC on the following day), while restrictions for private vehicles and motorcycles remain in effect from 0500 hours local time (1000 hours UTC) to 2000 hours local time (0100 hours UTC on the following day).
• Authorities stated that the restrictions apply throughout the Aburrá Valley, including Medellín, Bello, Envigado, Itagüí, Sabaneta, La Estrella, Caldas, Copacabana, Girardota and Barbosa. Exemptions remain in place for the Río Road System, Avenida Las Palmas and the Vía a Occidente.
• Vehicles found violating the restriction may be subject to financial penalties and vehicle impoundment in accordance with the National Traffic Code.
