As per reports, on Thursday (04 December), the US President Donald Trump is expected to host the Presidents of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to formally sign a peace and economic agreement at the White House. The White House confirmed this on Monday (01 December).
• Since January 2025, the Rwandan-backed M23 rebels intensified fighting in North Kivu province, capturing the key cities of Goma and Bukavu, worsening humanitarian and security conditions. Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi’s spokesperson Tina Salama confirmed his participation in Washington to endorse the agreement. Rwandan President Paul Kagame also confirmed his travel but declined further comment.
• Rwanda and the DRC recently acknowledged slow progress on prior commitments but agreed to continue working on easing tensions.
