As per reports, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced a full closure of the Parkway East between the Edgewood-Swissvale and Squirrel Hill exits from 10 July, for approximately 26 days until 05 August.
The closure affects Interstate 376 (I-376) near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel. It is part of a project to replace the Commercial Street Bridge located near Swisshelm Park.
• Authorities have advised motorists traveling through the area from Monroeville to use alternate routes including the Pennsylvania Turnpike toward Harmar and Route 28, Interstate 279 via Cranberry, or Route 48 southbound connecting to Route 837 through West Mifflin into Pittsburgh.
• Inbound traffic toward Pittsburgh is scheduled to be diverted via Wilkinsburg using Penn Avenue and Fifth Avenue through Oakland before reconnecting to the Parkway East.
• Outbound traffic from Pittsburgh is scheduled to use detours via Oakland, Fifth Avenue, Penn Avenue, and Wilkinsburg before reconnecting with Interstate 376.
• Inbound ramps at Churchill and Forest Hills, along with outbound on-ramps at Bates Street and Squirrel Hill, are scheduled to close during the construction phase.
• Local traffic from Squirrel Hill is advised to use Beechwood Boulevard, the Homestead Grays Bridge, Route 837, and the Rankin Bridge to reconnect with the highway near Swissvale.
