As per reports, rough sea conditions continue to affect Ecuador’s mainland coast and the Galápagos Islands on Tuesday (04 February) and Wednesday (05 February), according to an oceanographic bulletin issued by Instituto Oceanográfico y Antártico de la Armada (INOCAR).
• On Wednesday (04 February), rough seas persist across coastal provinces including Esmeraldas, Manabí, Santa Elena, Guayas, and El Oro, as well as western and southern sectors of the Galápagos Islands. Maximum wave heights reach up to 01.80 meters along the mainland and in the western Galápagos, with periods of up to 15 seconds, increasing the risk in surf zones, particularly on open and exposed beaches.
• By Thursday (05 February), sea conditions transition from rough to moderate; however, wave heights remain above normal in many areas. Along the mainland coast, maximum wave heights range between 01.20 and 01.40 meters, while in the Galápagos Islands waves may reach up to 01.60 meters, with periods extending up to 18 seconds. Despite the moderation, elevated wave energy continues to pose risks for swimmers, small craft, and coastal activities.
