As per reports, the metrological department, Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) has issued orange weather warnings for strong winds, snowfall and heavy rainfall for parts of Germany starting Tuesday (06 February)
The regions placed under the warning are Schleswig Holstein, Freie Hansestadt Bremen, Niedersachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Berlin, and Sachsen.
• In Saxony and Thuringia, strong winds between 55 and 70 kilometres per hour (kmph) are expected until 1200 hours (local time) on Wednesday (07 February). In the Erzgebirge foothills, wind speeds are expected to reach 85 kmph, and 120 kmph in Fichtelberg.
• In the afternoon hours of Wednesday (07 February), the snow line is expected to drop to low altitudes in both Saxony and Thuringia. Additionally, the prevailing weather is conducive to the formation of wet snow.
• From Wednesday (07 February) and intermittently until Friday (09 February) a prolonged period of precipitation is expected in the Harz Mountains. The snowline is expected to drop to lower altitudes during this period. The resulting conditions are expected to be characterized by slippery surfaces mainly due to the presence of slush.
