As per reports, a nationwide hydrological warning has been issued by the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service in Bolivia on Saturday (06 December) after persistent rainfall caused rapid and progressive increases in water levels across multiple river systems.
• The orange alert remains in effect from Saturday (06 December) to Monday (08 December), covering the departments of La Paz, Pando, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz and Beni.
• The Northern Amazon sector is expected to see progressive rises in the Enapurera, Tequeje and Cuñada rivers, creating overflow risks for Ixiamas and surrounding communities.
• The Madre de Dios River and its tributaries continue to rise, increasing the likelihood of flooding in Puerto Heath, Chivé, El Sena and adjacent communities. Hydrological conditions remain unstable across the Tahuamanu, Abuná and Beni basins, with heightened vulnerability in low lying settlements.
• Flash flood conditions are expected in the Ivirgarzama and Magareño rivers, posing a risk of sudden overflow that may affect Ivirgarzama and surrounding communities. Rapid rises may compromise rural routes, agricultural zones and local transport connectivity.
• Overflow risks are identified in the Siches and Mizque rivers, which could impact Cliza, Punata, Mizque and Pojo. Increasing flows may threaten farmland, disrupt road access and produce localised flooding in communities along these river corridors.
• The Ichilo and Grande rivers are registering notable increases and may affect San Juan Campo Victoria, Okinawa, Pailón and Cuatro Cañadas. Rising levels may create operational disruptions for rural transport, agriculture and community infrastructure in eastern Santa Cruz.
• Flooding is also expected in the Sécure, Isiboro near Gundonovia, Tijamuchi, Apere, Maniqui and Hondo rivers, with communities along these channels facing elevated exposure to overflow events.
