As per reports, approximately 12,600 gallons of crude oil spilt into the Gulf of Mexico as of Thursday (05 March) due to a mechanical failure at an offshore terminal.
• The first leakages were reported a week ago on Thursday (26 February).
• The release occurred at the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), specifically at a transfer buoy in Grand Isle Block 59, located approximately 18 miles off the coast of Grand Isle, Louisiana.
• As of Thursday (05 March), cleanup teams have recovered a “substantial portion” of the oil from open waters; however, limited amounts of crude have reached and been recovered from isolated barrier islands near the Houma Navigation Canal.
