As per reports, the Government primary school teachers have announced a nationwide strike scheduled for Thursday (27 November), as per a press release issued by the Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Council on Wednesday (26 November).

• The strike has been called in response to long-standing demands related to pay scale adjustments, promotion structures, and career progression within the primary education cadre.
• The council highlighted that the government has not made adequate progress on key issues despite multiple rounds of discussions.
• Teachers initiated a sit-in program on 08 November, followed by continued demonstrations at key locations.
• A central sit-in was held at Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, and a pen-surrender protest took place at Shahbagh.
• Clashes between teachers and police during these protests resulted in over 100 teachers sustaining injuries.
• Meetings were held with senior officials on 9 November (Ministry of Primary and Mass Education) and 10 November (Ministry of Finance).
• Due to insufficient progress, the council advanced the previously planned continuous strike from 30 November.
