Nationwide power outage reported in Sri Lanka on Sunday (09 February)

As per reports, a nation wide power outage was reported across Sri Lanka on Sunday (09 February). Further details are as follows:

• The outage began around 1130 hours local time on Sunday (09 February), and persisted for the next several hours.
• Certain areas reported power outages for more than five to six hours.
• The state power entity restored power at the national hospital and other key installations after an hour of the outage, as stated by the authorities.
• The power outage was caused by an emergency at the Panadura grid substation where a group of monkeys had entered the substation and caused significant damage.
• The Sri Lanka Railways stated that the operations of signalling systems at railway crossings were affected due to the sudden power outage across the country, leading to minor disruptions to rail traffic.
• The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWRDB) had also reported disturbances in ensuring water supply due to the power outage.
