As per reports, on Sunday (21 September), anti-corruption protests took place across multiple Philippine cities, extending beyond Metro Manila. The demonstrations were organized by civic, religious, youth, and multisectoral groups and were timed with the anniversary of Proclamation 1081, which declared martial law under former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
The following protests were organised nationwide:
• Laoag City, Ilocos Norte: Progressive and religious groups are celebrating Holy Mass at the Iglesia Filipina Independiente Cathedral and marched to Aurora Park.
• Tuguegarao City, Cagayan: Protests were expected at Rizal Park, organized by Kabataan Kontra Korapsyon and the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao.
• San Fernando City, La Union: A protest was to be held at San Fernando City Plaza.
• Olongapo City, Zambales: Civic organizations and local artists are marching at Rizal Triangle Park.
• Baguio City: Multisector groups are holding protests at the People’s Park, Baguio Convention Center and Malcolm Square.
• Pangasinan: The Archdiocese of Lingayen–Dagupan has planned a candlelight vigil and rosary in all its churches.
• Iloilo City: Organized by Kahublagan Kontra Korapsyon, protesters were expected to march from either Jaro Cathedral or the UP Visayas city campus to the Iloilo provincial capitol grounds; organizers said 3,000 participants were expected.
• Bacolod City, Negros Occidental: Clergy of the Diocese of Bacolod and the Council of Concerned Citizens are leading a march from Capitol Lagoon to Bacolod Public Plaza at 1300 hours local time.
• Cebu City. Protesters flocked to Fuente Osmeña Circle as of Sunday (21 September) morning; a demonstration at Plaza Independencia was also expected.
• Dumaguete City: Clergy, youth, and civic groups gathering at Pantawan 01.
• Cagayan de Oro: Groups are marching from St. Augustine Cathedral to Vicente de Lara Park.
• In the capital, civic, religious and progressive groups gathered at Luneta Park in the morning hours and are set to congregate at the EDSA People Power Monument in the afternoon hours.
• Retired military personnel were also set to protest outside Camp Aguinaldo.
• A separate group, Hakbang ng Maisug, which backs detained former president Rodrigo Duterte, was set to hold a “Save the Philippines” protest at Liwasang Bonifacio at 1300 hours local time.
