As per reports, the National Association of Judges has called for a special nationwide meeting of court representatives on Monday (26 May) at the Judicial Research and Training Institute in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. The rare meeting is being convened amid concerns over the judiciary’s political neutrality following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung’s election law violation case.
Reports indicate that approximately 70 judges have expressed opposition to the timing of the meeting, scheduled ahead of the Tuesday (03 June) election, with several people calling for its postponement to prevent potential political misinterpretation. As per protocol, the meeting cannot proceed without majority attendance, and any resolutions adopted will require a majority vote among those present.
