As per reports, the Regional Labor Union of Tunis and the University Branch for Religious Affairs in the Tunis region have announced a protest by mosque staff and administrators in front of the Ministry of Religious Affairs headquarters at Kasbah Government Square, Tunis between 1000 hours local time (0900 hours UTC) and 1200 hours local time (1100 hours UTC) on 05 February.
Protesters are mobilizing in rejection of an alleged policy of marginalization and indifference by the supervisory authority. Demands include legal integration of mosque staff and administrators into the public service, the opening of serious and formal negotiations between the General Union of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and tangible improvements to their professional, material, and living conditions, including the guarantee of their social and labor rights.
• The action is organized by agents and executives working in the religious affairs sector, including mosque staff and administrators across the Tunis region.
• Union representatives have indicated that this action comes weeks ahead of Ramadan, framing it as a pressure tactic to resolve outstanding issues before a peak period of religious activity. The union has also warned that this demonstration may mark the start of a broader series of union and legal actions.
