The MetService has issued a heavy rainfall watch for parts of Fiordland and southern Westland, valid from 1400 hours (local time) on Thursday (08 January) through to 0600 hours (local time) on Friday (09 January).

Periods of heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms are expected as a weather front moves onto the lower South Island.
