Memorial Day ceremonies and veterans events scheduled in Santa Ynez Valley from Saturday (23 May)

As per reports, veterans organizations across the Santa Ynez Valley will conduct Memorial Day commemorative activities between Saturday (23 May) and Monday (25 May) to honor fallen US military personnel.

• On Saturday (23 May), members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7139 will place American flags on veterans’ graves at several cemeteries, including Santa Ines Mission Cemetery, Chalk Hill Cemetery, Oak Hill Cemetery, and Saint Marks Cemetery.
• Activities at Oak Hill Cemetery are scheduled to begin at 0900 hours local time (1600 hours UTC), where more than 900 graves are expected to be decorated. Public participation and attendance are anticipated during the observance.
• Additionally, VFW Post 7139 members will distribute commemorative red poppies outside an Albertsons location in Buellton between 1300 hours local time (2000 hours UTC) and 1500 (2200 hours UTC) on both Saturday (23 May) and Sunday (24 May).
• On Monday (25 May), American Legion Post 160 will conduct a series of cemetery ceremonies beginning at 1000 hours local time (1700 hours UTC) at Chalk Hill Cemetery, followed by observances at Santa Ines Mission Cemetery, Oak Hill Cemetery, and Saint Marks Cemetery.
• A formal Memorial Day program on Monday (25 May) is scheduled at 1200 hours local time (1900 hours UTC) at the Solvang Veterans Memorial Hall. The event will include musical performances, participation from local veterans organizations, representatives from Vandenberg Space Force Base, and community groups including Boy Scouts. A free barbecue for veterans and their families will follow the ceremony.
• Authorities and organizers expect increased pedestrian activity, localized traffic congestion, and temporary parking limitations near cemeteries, memorial venues, and gathering areas throughout the Memorial Day weekend period.
