As per reports, a mega Tiranga Yatra will be held in Kolkata on Monday (10 August) as part of the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ (tricolor in every home) campaign, with similar programmes and rallies planned in several districts of West Bengal to mark Independence Day.
The details are as follows:
• The Kolkata procession will commence at 1500 hours (local time) from the foot of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose statue on Red Road and culminate at Gate No. 7 of the Birla Planetarium.
• Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will lead the march and address a public gathering near the Birla Planetarium after the procession.
• Nearly 50,000 people are expected to participate in the mega march, bringing together people from different sections of society.
• Kolkata Police have announced traffic restrictions from 1200 hours (local time) onwards to manage the expected movement of participants and vehicular congestion.
• From 1200 hours (local time) until the programme concludes, movement of all types of goods vehicles, except vehicles carrying LPG cylinders, CNG, petroleum, oil, lubricants and oxygen, as well as vegetables, medicines, fruits, fish and milk, will be restricted along the 2nd Hooghly Bridge, AJC Bose Road towards the south from its crossing with Lenin Sarani at Moulali Crossing up to Hastings Crossing.
• Restrictions will also apply along St. Georges Gate Road, Strand Road up to Raja Woodmunt Street, CR Avenue from GC Avenue towards the south, all along JL Nehru Road in both directions, and SP Mukherjee Road from Rash Behari Avenue up to Exide Crossing.
• The Kolkata Maidan and adjoining areas may also experience road closures to vehicular traffic as and when considered necessary by the Traffic Police on duty on Monday (10 August).
• The affected roads include Kingsway, Plassey Gate Road, RR Avenue, Mayo Road, JL Nehru Road, Cathedral Road, Queensway, Red Road, Khidderpore Road, Lovers Lane and Casuarina Avenue.
• Parking will be prohibited from 1200 hours (local time) until the programme concludes, or earlier if considered necessary by the Traffic Police, on Kingsway; Strand Road between IRTP and Auckland Road, except for vehicles carrying participants for the programme; RR Avenue; Plassey Gate Road; Mayo Road; JL Nehru Road; Cathedral Road; Queensway; Dufferin Road; and Casuarina Avenue.
• Vehicular traffic may also be diverted from arterial and feeder roads by the Traffic Police on duty as and when considered necessary on Monday (10 August).
• These notifications will be enforced in addition to the other normal traffic restrictions applicable on the day, provided that such restrictions are not inconsistent with the above measures.
