As per reports on Monday (24 March), the measles epidemic in Vietnam continues to spread, with over 42,000 suspected cases reported in 2025 so far, including approximately 4,000 confirmed cases and six deaths.
• Hanoi recently recorded its first death in 2025, involving a 4-year-old girl who had not been vaccinated.
• The Vietnamese Ministry of Health notes that the highest proportion of confirmed cases, 72.7 percent, involves children aged nine months to under 15 years, with over 95 percent of these cases being unvaccinated or having unknown vaccination status.
• The outbreak has primarily affected large cities and areas with high population mobility, but there is a growing trend of the disease spreading to mountainous regions.
• The Ministry of Health anticipates that the overall measles outbreak has slowed but is not yet over, with new suspected cases likely to continue appearing across the country.
