As per reports, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government confirmed on Tuesday (24 March) that four measles cases identified between Tuesday (17 March) and Friday (20 March) may have involved contact with a large number of individuals in public places across Tokyo.
• Authorities indicated that infected individuals may have been present on passenger flights, at airport terminals, supermarkets, healthcare facilities, and entertainment venues during their infectious period.
• Notably, exposure locations include arrival and departure areas at Haneda Airport, international flights between Bangkok and Tokyo, Narita Airport transit, retail locations in Shinjuku Ward, and medical facilities in Meguro Ward.
• The total number of measles cases reported in Tokyo in 2026 has reached 41 as of Tuesday (24 March), exceeding last year’s annual total.
• Health authorities have stated that measles is highly contagious and can spread even before symptoms become apparent. However, officials noted that there is currently no confirmed widespread transmission linked to these specific exposure sites.
