As per reports, a fire broke out on Thursday (09 April) morning on a fuel boat moored at the F. Feeali harbour in the Maldives. The fire has further intensified and continues to spread amid ongoing firefighting operations.
• As per latest reports, the fire has spread to four boats, affected the island’s ice plant and also spread to a fuel shed in the vicinity, damaging fuel dispensers and parts of the fuel shed.
• Heavy fumes have spread across the entire island. The Feeali School shut down for the day, and students were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
• A Bangladeshi crew member of the fuel boat suffered serious burn injuries, and is under treatment at the island’s health centre.
• Firemen from F. Nilandhoo Fire Station are on the scene and containment operations are underway.
