As per reports, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck approximately 4.9 km (3 mi) from Hualien City, Taiwan, at 0752 hours (local time) on Wednesday (08 October).

• The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km (6 mi), which typically increases the intensity of shaking near the epicenter. The tremor was felt by residents in Hualien City and surrounding areas, but there have been no official reports of damage or casualties so far.
• Hualien, located on Taiwan’s seismically active eastern coast, frequently experiences earthquakes due to the interaction of the Philippine Sea Plate and Eurasian Plate. Authorities are continuing to monitor for possible aftershocks or impacts to infrastructure.
