As per the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), a magnitude 4.8 earthquake occurred off the coast of Iwate at 1707 hours (local time) on Tuesday (14 July). The earthquake occurred at a depth of 40 kilometres.

The strongest shaking of Seismic Intensity 03 was observed in Hachinohe City, Fudai Village, Morioka City, and Karumai Town. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
