Lumpy skin disease outbreak reported in Nashik District, reports on Thursday (04 September)

As per reports, a surge in lumpy skin disease (LSD) cases has been reported across Nashik district, Maharashtra. The animal husbandry department is operating in alert mode following confirmation of 129–181 infected cattle, with seven livestock fatalities documented as of Thursday (04 September).

Newly affected regions include Sinnar and Niphad; the outbreak is now spreading from neighbouring Ahilyanagar (formerly known as Ahmednagar district) and Jalgaon districts.

• Veterinary teams have heightened vaccination, sample collection, and field inspections to control transmission, with over 6.40 lakh animals already vaccinated. Increased disease incidence is reported in unvaccinated animals.
