Low-Pressure Area likely to develop into Tropical Depression and impact Philippines from Wednesday (04 February) onwards

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecast that a Low-Pressure Area (LPA), currently located 1350 kilometres East of Northeastern Mindanao, can potentially to turn into a Tropical Depression.

It is likely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the early hours of Wednesday (04 February), and influence weather conditions over the Philippines between Wednesday and Friday (04-06 February).

• If the LPA develops into a tropical depression, it will be assigned the local name ‘Basyang.’
• Based on the latest forecasts, the weather disturbance is expected to bring heavy rainfall to parts of Visayas and Mindanao on Thursday (05 February). There is also the possibility of raising Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) in parts of Mindanao and Visayas.
• Between Wednesday and Thursday noon (04-05 February), 50-100 mm of rainfall is forecast in Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur.
• Meanwhile, between Thursday and Friday noon (05-06 February), the LPA/Tropical Depression is forecast to bring 50-100 mm of rainfall over Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Bohol, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Bukidnon, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, and Davao Oriental.
