As per reports, the BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) issued a 72-hour strike notice on behalf of LifeLabs workers across British Columbia, including employees at five locations in Prince George as of Thursday (13 February).
• The strike is scheduled to begin on Sunday (16 February) at 1200 hours (local time), with an initial rally at the LifeLabs Burnaby Reference Lab.
• The strike follows months of stalled negotiations, with union representatives arguing that wages and benefits are not keeping up with the cost of living and that chronic understaffing has led to poor working conditions
• The union is reportedly demanding wage increases to align with public sector salaries, citing that LifeLabs employees earn 04 to 16 percent less than their counterparts in the industry. The union also raised concerns about staffing shortages impacting working conditions and patient care
