As per reports, a level six severe weather warning has been issued for Madeira by the Port Authority of Funchal on Monday (08 December), signalling high risk conditions for maritime and coastal areas.
• The warning reflects a forecast of force 07 winds, reaching speeds between 51 and 62 kilometres per hour, and capable of affecting vessels, port operations and coastal access points across the island.
• The upgraded advisory updates earlier alerts for rough seas and strong winds and will remain in effect until 0600 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) on Tuesday (09 December).
• Forecasts indicate moderate to fresh southwesterly winds between 31 and 39 kilometres per hour through the day, occasionally increasing to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.
• Conditions are expected to intensify from mid afternoon, with sustained fresh to very fresh winds and potential escalation to strong winds between 51 and 61 kilometres per hour by the end of the warning period.
• Sea conditions are expected to worsen steadily across both coasts. On the North coast, a northwesterly swell of 01.50 to 02.50 metres is expected to increase to between 03 and 04.50 metres. On the South coast, waves from the southern quadrant are forecast to reach between 01 and 01.50 metres.
