According to Kazhydromet, adverse weather conditions and fire danger warnings are in effect across several regions of Kazakhstan on Monday (25 May), with rain, thunderstorms, fog, frost, dust storms, strong winds, and high to extreme fire danger forecast in multiple areas.
• Short-term rain and thunderstorms are expected during the day in Astana, the west, north and east of Akmola Region, including Kokshetau, and the north and south of North Kazakhstan Region. Light rain and thunderstorms are expected during the day in the east and southeast of Kostanay Region, while rain and thunderstorms are expected in the west and south of Mangystau Region, including occasional rain and thunderstorms in Aktau during the day.
• Brief rain and thunderstorms are forecast in the south, mountainous and foothill areas of Turkestan Region, including Shymkent during the day. Rain and thunderstorms are also expected during the day in the mountainous areas of Zhambyl Region. In East Kazakhstan Region, precipitation in the form of rain and snow is expected at night in the north, east and south of the region.
• Fog is expected at night and during the morning in the west of North Kazakhstan Region and in the mountainous areas of Zhambyl Region. Fog is also expected in the east of Karaganda Region during the night and morning, and in the north, east and south of East Kazakhstan Region at night.
• Frost conditions are forecast overnight in parts of eastern Abay Region, northern and eastern East Kazakhstan Region, and eastern Pavlodar Region. Temperatures are expected to drop to minus 2 degrees Celsius in eastern Abay Region and in the north and east of East Kazakhstan Region, while frost of minus 1 degree Celsius is expected in eastern Pavlodar Region.
• A dust storm is expected during the day in central Kyzylorda Region, including areas affecting movement around Kyzylorda. Northeasterly winds are expected during the day, with easterly winds in the centre of the region reaching 15 to 20 metres per second.
• Strong winds are forecast across several regions. In Akmola Region, southeasterly winds shifting to southwesterly are expected during the afternoon, with gusts of 15 to 20 metres per second in the west, north and east. In Zhetisu Region, northeasterly winds are expected to gust to 15 to 20 metres per second near the Alakol Lakes. In Zhambyl Region, northeasterly winds are expected during the morning and afternoon in the northeast, reaching 15 to 20 metres per second in mountainous areas.
• In North Kazakhstan Region, southwesterly winds are expected to reach 15 to 20 metres per second in the west, north and south, including Petropavlovsk during the day. In Turkestan Region, southeasterly winds are expected to reach 15 to 20 metres per second in the south and mountainous areas.
• High fire danger remains in West Kazakhstan Region, including Uralsk; central, southern, western and northeastern Kostanay Region; western and southern Akmola Region; northern, eastern and central Mangystau Region; southern Abay Region; central East Kazakhstan Region; northern Almaty Region; western and eastern Karaganda Region; Ulytau Region; northern, western, southern and central Zhetisu Region, including Taldykorgan; northern Zhambyl Region; western and eastern North Kazakhstan Region; northern Turkestan Region; and western and central Kyzylorda Region.
• Extreme fire danger is expected or remains in central and northeastern Atyrau Region, including Atyrau; northeastern Mangystau Region; eastern Abay Region; northern and southern Karaganda Region, including Karaganda city; eastern, southern and central Ulytau Region, including Zhezkazgan; eastern Pavlodar Region; eastern Zhetisu Region; and southern and northern Kyzylorda Region, including Kyzylorda city.
