As per reports, East Japan Railway Company (JR East) has suspended services on sections of the Joban Line Rapid and Joban Line on Friday (30 January) following a broken overhead wire at Ueno Station, Tokyo.

• A power outage was reported shortly before 0700 hours (local time), preventing trains from departing Ueno Station. Subsequent inspections confirmed that overhead wires on the Joban Line had been severed. As a result, Joban Line Rapid services remain suspended in both directions between Shinagawa Station and Toride Station (Ibaraki Prefecture), while Joban Line services are suspended between Ueno Station and Tsuchiura Station (Ibaraki Prefecture). Authorities indicated that there is no confirmed timeline for service resumption at this stage.
• The disruption also caused temporary suspensions on the Utsunomiya Line and Takasaki Line, which were restored shortly after 0800 hours (local time). Rail operators reported crowding at multiple stations, with entry restrictions implemented at select locations to manage congestion.
