Joint Action Committee Workers’ rally planned in Mumbai on Friday (01 May)

As per reports, a workers’ rally organised by the Joint Action Committee has been scheduled in Mumbai on Friday (01 May) on the occasion of International Workers’ Day (May Day).

• The rally is planned to commence in the evening from Parel Railway Station and proceed toward Rashtriya Mill Mazdoor Sangh on G.D. Ambekar Marg, where a large gathering of workers is expected.
• Additionally, a public meeting is scheduled at Mahatma Gandhi Hall at 1700 hours, during which labour leaders and union representatives are expected to deliver speeches and address participants.
• The event is being organised by multiple labour unions and worker groups, with participation expected from workers across sectors, including organised and unorganised segments.
• The demonstration is aimed at raising the following demands: immediately withdraw the Shram Shakti Policy; repeal the four labour codes and reinstate 29 labour laws; repeal the Public Security Act; increase the minimum wage to INR 26,000; and implement social security for all unorganised workers, including a pension of INR 10,000 per month.
• Additional demands include regularising contract workers; resolving issues of Anganwadi workers; stopping privatization of public sector enterprises; stopping the war and establishing peace; and opposing activities of imperialist countries.
• Tributes are also expected to be paid to individuals associated with labour movements, including those linked to the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, as part of the event proceedings.
