As per reports, the second major jallikattu event of the Pongal season was held at the Manjamalai riverbed in Palamedu, near Madurai, on Friday (16 January). The event was flagged off by Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and follows the season opener at Avaniyapuram held a day earlier.
• Officials stated that more than 1,000 bulls and around 500 tamers participated in the Palamedu event. To manage crowd movement and safety, over 2,000 police personnel were deployed across the venue and surrounding areas. Medical teams on-site reported 57 injuries during the first day of the season, including tamers and spectators, with 11 individuals shifted to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital for specialized treatment.
• Authorities confirmed that the final jallikattu event will be held at Alanganallur on Saturday (17 January) and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister M K Stalin. Additional infrastructure, including reinforced entry points and special galleries, has been arranged in anticipation of large domestic and international attendance.
