As per reports, on Monday (14 September), Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states are expected to hold talks in Salalah, Oman, focused on reopening and ensuring the security of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
• The discussions are expected to examine a temporary mechanism for safe passage of vessels, under which ships may enter Iranian waters before proceeding into Omani waters.
• Iran has reportedly linked the complete reopening of the Strait to demands including an end to the blockade of its ports and oil, exemptions for oil exports and access to frozen Iranian assets.
• A lasting resolution to the Strait of Hormuz crisis reportedly remains dependent on an agreement between Iran and the US.
