The Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police Services has issued a caution against potential disruptions in the Jakarta and West Java area, due to the following planned protests/rallies, as of Thursday (21 August):
• At 1400 WIB, in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building, Jl. Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta. Approximately 1,500 members of the Student Movement with the People (Gerakan Mahasiswa Bersama Rakyat/ GEMARAK) will likely stage a protest to reject capitalism, imperialism, and militarism, as well as to oppose oligarchy.
• At 1000 WIB, in front of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Jl. HR. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta) & LMKN/WAMI Office, Pancoran, South Jakarta. Approximately 50 members of the Indonesian Music Lovers Association (Asosiasi Pencinta Musik Indonesia) will likely stage a protest demanding an evaluation and audit of the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) and the Non-profit organisation Wahana Musik Indonesia (WAMI) regarding alleged embezzlement of royalties. The protesters also reject royalty payments to these institutions by private entities that use local music via paid applications.
• At 1500 WIB, in front of Taman Pandang Silang Monas, Central Jakarta. Approximately 50 members of Kamisan Action #874 – Victims’ Solidarity Network for Justice (Jaringan Solidaritas Korban untuk Keadilan/ JSKK) will likely hold a protest urging the resolution of past gross human rights violations and the elimination of impunity.
• At 1300 WIB, in front of the KPU RI Office, Jl. Imam Bonjol, Central Jakarta. Approximately 40 members of the Forum of Youth Concerned for Democracy (Forum Pemuda Peduli Demokrasi) will protest to demand transparency from the General Elections Commission (KPU) regarding election disputes and budget audits.
