As per reports, Toronto Pearson International Airport is preparing for increased passenger volumes from the end of June through September 2026 as travel associated with the 2026 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup coincides with the peak summer travel season.
Toronto is scheduled to host six FIFA World Cup matches between 12 June and 02 July. Toronto Pearson is expected to serve as a key arrival and transit hub for athletes, officials, fans and visitors travelling throughout North America during the tournament.
• Airport authorities expect up to 17 million arriving and departing passengers between June and the Labour Day weekend in September. Peak operational days may see up to 185,000 passengers and more than 1,000 flights, resulting in significantly elevated activity across airport facilities.
• Toronto Pearson has established a dedicated Games Operations Centre to coordinate airport activities and monitor operations throughout the tournament. The centre is designed to facilitate rapid response to operational issues and support real-time coordination between airport stakeholders.
• Preparations have been underway for more than a year and include integrated planning with airlines, federal agencies, emergency response services and other airport partners.
• Additional measures include enhanced staffing levels, increased customer service resources and cross-functional coordination involving terminal operations, baggage handling, airside operations, emergency management and communications teams.
• Airport authorities have stated that operational preparations are intended to maintain efficient passenger processing and support continuity of operations during periods of increased demand.
