According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), red, orange and yellow alerts have been issued across Gujarat on Sunday (07 September);
• A red alert for extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorm, lightning and squall with strong surface winds has been issued in Rajkot, Surendranagar, Banaskantha, Mahesana, Sabar Kantha, Aravalli, Valsad, Daman, Dadar Nagar and Haveli.
• An orange alert for very heavy rainfall, thunderstorm, lightning and squall with strong surface winds has been issued in Junagarh, Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Botad, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Khera, Mahisagar, Patan, Navsari and Dangs.
• The rest of the state is under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorm, lightning and squall with strong surface winds such as in Surat, Vadodra, Tapi, Kachch and others.
• The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Saturday (06 September) began issuing requests to residents close to the Vishwamitri River to move to safer areas, as the river neared its danger mark of 20 feet. Parts of the city, including Subhanpura, Tarsali and residential complexes of Vadsar witnessed waterlogging, while the VMC closed down a patch of Koteshwar Road due to the rising water levels. Public announcements were also made for residential complexes around Koteshwar village encouraging residents to shift to safer areas.
