The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following weather warnings for West Bengal on Sunday and Monday (21-22 June):
• Sunday (21 June): A red alert for extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, squall, and strong surface winds has been issued in Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri, while an orange alert for very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, squall, and strong surface winds has been issued in Cooch Behar, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Purba Bardhaman, and Paschim Bardhaman. The remaining districts, including Kolkata, are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, squall, and strong surface winds.
• In the Nowcast warning that is valid until 1200 hours (local time) on Sunday (21 June), a yellow alert for light rainfall of less than 05 mm/h, light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed less than 40 km/h, and low cloud-to-ground lightning probability of less than 30 percent lightning occurrence is activated in Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Paschim Bardhaman, Purba Bardhaman, and Nadia.
• Monday (22 June): The orange alert for very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, squall, and strong surface winds remains issued in Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri, while the remaining districts are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, squall, and strong surface winds.
