The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls accompanied by strong surface winds in parts of Haryana and Punjab on Friday (23 January).
The details are as follows:
• On Friday (23 January), a yellow alert for rainfall has been issued in districts of Haryana including Sirsa, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, and Karnal.
• A red alert has been issued in the IMD Nowcast on Friday (23 January) at 1120 hours (local time) and is valid till 1420 hours (local time) for moderate rain up to five to 15 millimeters per hour accompanied by thunderstorms, with hail and maximum surface winds up to 41 to 61 kilometers per hour for Ambala and Kurukshetra.
• An orange alert has been issued in the IMD Nowcast on Friday (23 January) at 1118 hours (local time) and is valid till 1418 hours (local time) for moderate rain up to five to 15 millimeters per hour accompanied by thunderstorms, with hail and maximum surface winds up to 41 to 61 kilometers per hour for Panchkula, Yamunanagr, Karnal, Kauthal, Panipat, Sonipat, Gurgoaon, Mewat, Palwal and Faridabad. A yellow alert is also issued for light rain in the remaining districts of Haryana.
• On Friday (23 January), an orange alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls accompanied by hailstorms and strong surface winds has been issued for the districts of Punjab, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Moga, Firozpur, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Rupnagar, Nawahahr, and Kapurthala.
• On Friday (23 January), a yellow alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls has been issued for the districts of Punjab, including Ludhiana, Sas Nagar, Fazilka, Muktsar, Faridkot, Bathinda, Barnala, Sangrur, Patiala, Fathegarh Sahib, and Mansa.
• A red alert has been issued in the IMD Nowcast on Friday (23 January) at 1120 hours (local time) and is valid till 1420 hours (local time) for moderate rain up to five to 15 millimeters per hour accompanied by thunderstorms, with hail and maximum surface winds up to 41 to 61 kilometers per hour for Patiala.
• An orange alert has been issued in the IMD Nowcast on Friday (23 January) at 1118 hours (local time) and is valid till 1418 hours (local time) for low cloud to ground lightning probability, moderate rain up to five to 15 millimeters per hour accompanied by thunderstorms, with hail and maximum surface winds up to 41 to 61 kilometers per hour for Hosiarpur, Jalandhar, Mansa, Bathinda, Barnala, Sangrur, Kapurthala, Sas Nagar, Rupnagar, Nawashahr, Ludhiana, Fathegarh Sahib. A yellow alert is also issued for light rain in the remaining districts of Punjab.
